DS cloud App Reviews

Doesnt work.

Doesnt work at all.

It doesn’t work with Files at all.

What am I supposed to do with this?

Dead dead DEAD

App keeps saying app needs to be updated. Well don’t tell me, tell synology that their last update was 3 yrs ago and this does not work. They are approaching Western Digital levels of customer support. UPDATE——-A YEAR after posting this Lord Synology deigns to respond….a year later….would have been better to NOT respond than say “hey we value you and your comments so so much we eventually got around to responding with a non response response”. Their lateness and “quality” response speaks for itself. That and their removing PLEX functionality in their new systems…thanks for the downgrade nobody asked for.

13 Max “your DS Cloud version is not up-to-date. Please update…

…There no other update for DS Cloud in the App Store so I can’t use the app!!!

Priorities

Updated 3 years ago. I guess those note editing apps are more important than a core app.

Can't annotate

There is no way with this app to use native iOS annotation for synced images and PDF. Neither from the app, nor from Files.

Repeatedly crashes on startup

After setting up the app, it crashes on launch. Totally useless.

Needs work

If you need to change your password then you have to unlink and re sync. Very inconvenient. The iPhone version also only allows you to link with local IP address. Good luck getting the app to sync if your local IP address changes. Again you will need to re sync from the start which is not convenient if you have a lot of files.

Not working for iOS 13

When is an update coming?

From 5 to 1 star

All was near perfect until I got a device with Face ID and when that feature is enabled DS Cloud crashes upon start. That’s not the case for other DS apps, not sure why. Synology, please fix this ASAP. Thanks.

Needs updates

Needs updates, if you’re relying on their work on the softwares (apps) don't buy it their product.

Unstable

If you enable Touch ID within the app while using the iPhone XR, the app force closes indefinitely. Hasn’t been updated in 9 months. Feels like abandonware

Only worked once

Always crashes when launched. Uninstalling/reinstalling did not correct. Restarting also did not correct. Crashes immediately after launch.

Stay away until Synology came out with single advanced solution

Apple made it simple - just one app Files (iCloud) to get work on your files and access. And Photos for your media. I hoped to get own Cloud on Synology NAS. And was trying to choose between Synology and QNAP. A lot of suggestions online that Synology like Apple and have great apps and easy. Well, not really.... Here we go Synology apps to work/access files: Drive, DS File, DS Cloud. And for your pics you get: Moments and DS Photo. Do you really need to get confused when and why to use that or another DS app to work on your files?? I need just one to make life easier. Every time I have to open support ticket to get know which app better to use for my scenario. Here what Synology replied: Drive when you need to access data which sync by Synology Drive Desktop. DS File is for File management not for access....DS Cloud to sync data iphone and Synology NAS and back. And, Moments vs DS Photo: online you can read forums that Moments will replace DS Photo. That’s why I started use Moments not DS Photo. But, when I asked Synology Support they advised that DS Photo for more advanced photography and Moments just to back up your pics.... Well, Synology why you make so complicated with your apps? Just make ONE for file management, ONE for media. But, one which will do everything you may need. I went and check QNAP, and they actually have more close approach as Apple- less apps. They have one for files, and one for media. And all those app managent apps Drive, DS Files, DS Cloud -doesn’t sync between each other. I guess, for Apple environment is better just to pay for iCloud storage and stick with it. Unless, Synology will listen and work on their apps.

Does not sync in the Background

This app does not support background sync. Does not appear in iOS settings under apps that work in the background. I have a large folder with a lot of sub folders that needs to sync. It worked when I had android I just switch to iOS and it does not work In the background.

CRAP

This is the worst app I’ve seen in a while. Cloud Starion Server is pretty much garbage ... but this app stinks. Crappy functionality, connection is flakey. I mean, Are they hiring pizza delivery developers? WORST APP EVER

Dated

App looks dated, when are you guys going to make it iPhone 10 compatible? Let’s get with the times here!!!!

Missing basic functionality

Bought the Synology NAS to backup my iPhone files as I ran out of space on iCloud (need to backup about 10,000 files). Started by synchronizing my photos over WiFi via DS Cloud, but had to stop the process after 10 hours as needed to take my phone with me. DS Cloud did not resume the initial synchronization when I connected back to my WiFi, so only 3,000 files were backed up. Tried a few times and still no success. Unfortunately, I cannot leave my phone at home for 30+ hours to run the initial synchronization. Can we please add the option to properly resume the initial sync? DS Photo has it, so would think it’s easy to replicate in DS Cloud. Without this feature, my Synology NAS is basically useless...

Not even close to Dropbox or Drive

I had high hopes for this app and service and it’s incredibly close, but the simple fact that all files need to sync to view makes this app pointless. Let me know when it works like Dropbox.

Not really a cloud drive

1. You cannot share files to/from other applications (others reviews have mentioned this too). For example if I want to copy a file to photos app, it is not possible. 2. I change password frequently. Changing password requires unlinking from the server and redo the setup. Very annoying - no option to change password I think the developers of iPhone app have not given much thought to usability of this app.

Works

I use this app to sync 1 share folder with documents I use on my tablet and computer. I love it! Everything is synced usually pretty fast and other apps have no issue getting a file from the cloud!

There's no reason you need my GPS location even when the app isn't running

PDF searching kind of broken

The app syncs fine, I haven't had any issues with that part of the app. I have found that searching PDF files is broken. It will find all the instances of the search term but it will only take you to the first instance you tap on. Iow, if you tap on the wrong instance and go back to tap on the right one it takes you back to the first instance you tapped on. Not sure of that makes sense but try and see for yourself. It will only jump to the first one you tap on from then on.

Needs an update badly

Works pretty well, BUT as on iOS 10.2, I have lost the ability to save a image to my iPhones camera role, which is hugely important. Please fix this feature ASAP. Regarding that specific feature in general. It should not be buried so deep down in the preview area, which is where is was before. It should be on the file properties page too.

Not a real "cloud" app, crashes...

First, which is not a problem per se, is that this works with the Synology network disks - you have to have that. And I do, which is fine. If you don't, this won't help. Second, it hard crashes my iPhone. I had not yet had any hard crashes, until yesterday when I installed this app, and I got two of them. These are the hard crashes where the phone is completely frozen - no response to any of the buttons and the screen is frozen. Third, this is not really a "cloud" app, like iCloud or Google Drive. You can't save a document from Microsoft Word on your iPad to your Synology disk. At least I couldn't find out how. (No problem with Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox.) Instead it copies (synchs) the files from the shared folder(s) on your Synology disk to your iDevice. But since the file system in iOS is not user accessible, this is kind of useless. Fourth, since it's synching the files from your Synology folders to your iDevice, it can fill up the memory on your iDevice. Maybe it's useful if you're a developer and want to get at that stuff?

5 stars so far

I just started using this when Microsoft onedrive changed their policies and also deleted a business account that I had with them. I wish I used this earlier, its awesome and very compatible for the iphone. It can open and view files faster than onedrive on wifi or cellular. It also feels better to know all your stuff is not stored in some huge server room in god knows where.

Awesome your own cloud sync off your NAS

Full featured cloud sync between devices. Very configurable user group level privileges. Can even give friends userIDs assign them to a group. Can specify sync wifi only to save LTE usage if say was family sync. Synology NAS are known for simplicity. Am not an IT professional but a computer professional.

Love my synology

Great to see these apps keep getting better!

Great Dropbox Replacement

Use this to replace Dropbox and works great. Has all the advance features of Dropbox plus the ability to Authenticate with Active Directory!

Still not able to sync IOS device to Diskstation

After spending a week with synology support and allowing them to logon to my server they (???) found out that this app does NOT support syncing data from IPAD or IPHONE to diskstation... Guess that we need to keep using ITunes or Apple's ICloud. If you only want to view existing or create non-IOS Clouds than it's 5* app, but not what I was hoping for. (Of course this is another ;$&:/@ Apple restriction/ protection.....getting so tired of it)

Good system except iPhone app

The iPad app works great but the iPhone app does not sync. Very frustrating.

Unusable as a sync app.

If you are looking to create your own cloud, it will not work on iOS devices.

Needs work

I love Synology's products but this one needs some work. The biggest issue is that it doesn't appear to sync in the background. So, if you have a large number of files and folders, you have to keep the app active on your phone, or it'll just stop syncing until you launch the app again. It would also be better if there was an option to have it sync the file metadata instead of actual files. Until these issues are addressed I find the DS File app to be more useful on a day to day basis but unfortunately it requires a continuous network connection.

Super easy to keep data in sync

This app works great to keep data on my hand held sand laptops in sync with my server. You can dictate what faders and sub folders to sync and detail the item types or sizes in the sub folders as well. It's a great app.

works

works great here, needs some minor improvements on showing me the status if the sync or progress bar or anything like that

Disappointed

Doesn't work well. Syncs some files, slow, and inconsistent. Not recommended

Nice, but could be improved

I agree with other reviews. The app definitively shouldn't have to sync the data to allow access to selected files. None of the other related apps do (Dropbox, Box, Google drive, etc).

Worked great... Now nothing.

Was a great app. Now it isn't compatible with the latest update on our cloud host. Need an updated version of app please to Match the update synology cloud for PC. Thanks!

DS app needs to stop **syncing

Since DS Cloud app is intentionally designed for iphone and ipad users, I found it make no sense for this app to download(sync) the entire CloudStation folder before user can view them. DS Cloud needs to be able to just list the folder and actually download the files that user wants instead of download them all which will be an overhead to the mobile device limited storage. Other than this, this app is good.

Nice design. However...

I get nothing but a permission denied message regardless of which account I use, even when logged in as the account with no problems through the browser. I give it 3 for design and intent but so far it's not functional for me. It doesn't crash on my 5C.

Crashes on launch

Need to re-install now and then since it will suddenly start crashing on launch.

Doesn't work.

Doesn't work at all.

Great app, printing bug though

Awesome app. Seamless transfer of files from ds file to ds cloud and auto syncing is amazing. Would be 5 stars if it didn't crash when trying to air print txt files from within the app.

Local vs Remote Isue

Maybe I did not set it right. I was hoping it can sync both when I am local on the LAN vs remote via Internet. Seems when my iPad is connected via home WiFi, I have to use local IP address. When I am away, I am to use my DNS address, each time it needs to re-sync. Not very friendly.

Fixed

Last update fixed recursive syncing. Still seems to have occasional sync problems.

Still has syncing issues

The iPhone app works fine. The ipad app still has issues with fully syncing all files

Very good update. It now syncs subfolders.

I gave it a poor review because of the non syncing of subfolder but with this update you can. A much needed update as the previous version was almost useless. Now, if we can get an update that will show thumbnails of images I'll give it a 5 star rating. Dan

Subfolders

Do not upgrade the DS file to cloud station. It does not sync subfolders.
