This app works great to keep data on my hand held sand laptops in sync with my server. You can dictate what faders and sub folders to sync and detail the item types or sizes in the sub folders as well. Its a great app.
I love Synologys products but this one needs some work. The biggest issue is that it doesnt appear to sync in the background. So, if you have a large number of files and folders, you have to keep the app active on your phone, or itll just stop syncing until you launch the app again. It would also be better if there was an option to have it sync the file metadata instead of actual files. Until these issues are addressed I find the DS File app to be more useful on a day to day basis but unfortunately it requires a continuous network connection.
First, you need a Synology network disk. Then you need to log into it and install the DS Cloud app in the disk, then set it up - tell it what folders to share. Then you can install this app on you iPad or iPhone (or both), and youre good to go. For me the problem was that the DS Cloud app on the disk began to grow until it used up 100% of a 1Terabyte drive, making the disk unusable, for sharing a few megs of files. I just uninstalled it on the Synology disk and the space gradually came back. Maybe I did something wrong, but I have no idea what. When Synology either fixes this bug, or documents how youre supposed to do it, this would be a great system. Note that it also keeps past versions of your files - maybe that was the problem? - so you can roll back to look at older versions.
If you are looking to create your own cloud, it will not work on iOS devices.
The iPad app works great but the iPhone app does not sync. Very frustrating.
iPhone app not showing any files despite working connection according to the connection status.
After spending a week with synology support and allowing them to logon to my server they (???) found out that this app does NOT support syncing data from IPAD or IPHONE to diskstation... Guess that we need to keep using ITunes or Apples ICloud. If you only want to view existing or create non-IOS Clouds than its 5* app, but not what I was hoping for. (Of course this is another ;$&:/@ Apple restriction/ protection.....getting so tired of it)
Use this to replace Dropbox and works great. Has all the advance features of Dropbox plus the ability to Authenticate with Active Directory!
It does what I need most of the time. After iOS 8.3 update, Im unable to choose a file in other apps using the file services feature. Other apps that offer the same functionality seem ok. Ill add more stars once this is fixed.
Great to see these apps keep getting better!
Full featured cloud sync between devices. Very configurable user group level privileges. Can even give friends userIDs assign them to a group. Can specify sync wifi only to save LTE usage if say was family sync. Synology NAS are known for simplicity. Am not an IT professional but a computer professional.
